High Protein Meals: 25 Easy Ideas With 30-50 g of Protein
Published October 20, 2026
A high-protein meal has roughly 30-50 g of protein, which for most active adults means 3-4 such meals cover daily needs of about 0.7 g per lb (1.6 g/kg). That level is where extra protein stopped adding muscle on average in the largest meta-analysis on protein and strength training (Morton et al., 2018). Does timing matter?
A meta-analysis found that once total daily protein is accounted for, the exact timing around workouts has little effect on muscle growth (Schoenfeld et al., 2013). Hit your daily total, spread over 3-5 meals.
Plant-based?
Possible with slightly more total protein and a mix of legumes and grains: see plant-based protein. How much you need: how much protein per day. Powder questions: whey protein.
Caution
Kidney disease: talk to your doctor before increasing protein. Values above are approximations; check labels for your products.
